If a college application asks for my composite SAT score can I use my 2 best scores?

Cammy asked:

I took the SAT twice and the first time I got a 550 in math and a 650 in critical reading, the second time I took it I got a 480 in math and a 690 in critical reading. On some college applications it asks for my composite SAT score, can I add the math from the first time I took the SAT to the critical reading from the second time I took the SAT (It would be a 1240)? Or would this be cheating?
